The ARCHOS 70 internet tablet is now available. This tablet’s 7-inch wide screen with g-sensor makes for a fantastic viewing display. It is available for $279 and looks to be one hell of a tablet.

ARCHOS 70 internet tablet

Slim and light Android™ internet tablet at home and on the go. The slim and light design of the ARCHOS 70 internet tablet makes it both portable and great for sharing your best moments with your family and friends. It features all the functions of a computer in a new revolutionary design: your apps, the Internet, your photos, music and videos, eBooks, 3D games and more.

Slim and light design

How can the ARCHOS 70 internet tablet be so slim and so light? Both Flash and Hard drive models’ design are extra light and flat thanks to its patented technology with overmoulded stainless steel structure: 0.43 inch and only 11 oz for the Flash model, making it so easy to fit in your handbag or your briefcase.

High-resolution screen

The widescreen 7” touchscreen combined with a g-sensor lets you experience a never-seen-before viewing quality. The 800 x 480 pixels high-resolution display is so sharp that you can fully enjoy your pictures’ smallest details. In addition to the HD resolution, the 16:9 format is just perfect for rendering all your videos in the best quality.

Android™

Android™ is the application framework developed by Google for connected mobile devices, coming with a full pack of connected apps such as a web browser and email application. The 5 home screens of the Android user interface allow advanced personalization: icons can be placed, moved or erased with just a flick of a finger. Thanks to the home screen widgets, users can instantly access their favorite applications.

Android™ on TV

Basically, this is what you see on your product screen, but ten times bigger. With its TV output, the ARCHOS 70 internet tablet displays every Android™ sceen on your wide screen TV*. You can then browse your files or the Internet from your couch. And guess how immersed in your 3D games you could be using the device as a steering-wheel! This is just staggering!

Home Streaming from your PC

The ARCHOS 70 internet tablet has Samba and UPnP protocols: this means that you play your movies, videos, and photos on your ARCHOS, but these files are really located on your computer in another room. You don’t need to store everything on your ARCHOS to enjoy viewing it on your ARCHOS! Your files fly through the air over WiFi. The ARCHOS 70 internet tablet is the small and convenient portable computer that you’ve always dreamed about.

Unique Android™ Multimedia Applications

On top of Android’s latest version, ARCHOS, still at the forefront of innovation, brings you exclusive applications: The internet tablets feature music, video and photo applications, developed by ARCHOS, that enrich the user experience with smooth browsing through the album covers and with widgets added to the home screen to give instant access and control to media. These unique Android™ applications allow users to amplify their digital experience. One of these functions, 3D album cover application, allows you to glide through your music by album covers. You can also make your own music playlists or browse your songs and music by favorites, recently played or recently added. Because you want to enjoy your videos and TV shows without re-encoding them with complicated software, ARCHOS makes your life easier by supporting audio and video formats beyond the standard ones of Android™. It can even display subtitles and alternate audio tracks, all you have to do is drag, drop, and play! What other functions were created for you? An internet connected Photo frame application with 3D transitions, and the ability to sync your pictures with your Facebook©, Picasa© or Flickr© account.

Real web experience

Connect the ARCHOS 70 internet tablet to your WiFi network and you will be able to do just about everything that you do on your home PC, wherever you are. You will be able to surf the full web, not a scaled-down mobile version of the Internet thanks to Flash 10™** support which let you access to all your favorite websites. You’ll benefit from a full width and superfast display of the web pages with the high resolution screen (800 x 480 pixels) and the high-speed processor running at 1 GHz. The browsing experience is made even more intuitive with the Android™ browser. Tap a part of the text that you’re interested in and the display will be automatically resized to the paragraph you want to read. You can also easily check your emails at any moment with the Android™ email client which gives you the possibility to manage all your email accounts (Gmail, Yahoo!, etc).

3D graphics accelerator

The ARCHOS 70 internet tablet feature a graphical accelerator (3D OpenGL ES 2.0) to exploit Android™ 3D capabilities such as 3D games, animated interface with live wallpapers and transitions effects. You will be also able to enjoy the AndroidTM interface on your TV screen via the HDMI output. Discover a new way to play games on TV, your device becomes your gamepad.

AppsLib

Just tap the Appslib icon on the home screen of the ARCHOS 70 internet tablet to immediately discover a large choice of Android™ apps to download for the widest variety of needs you might have. It’s so easy and quick.

Games

Additionally, this product has a superfast CPU with OpenGL 3D graphic acceleration and a g-sensor to offer you excellent performance for playing the latest 3D games found on the Appslib.

Coming soon–TechRestore to offer the world’s only matte finish screen upgrade for the MacBook Air. Available for the 11- and 13-inch models, this upgrade replaces the glossy screen with a matte finish screen that has the same resolution, color depth and LED backlight. In 2009, TechRestore was awarded the MacWorld Expo Best of Show Reward for its MacBook Pro Unibody Matte Screen replacement. Local drop-off and remote overnight service will be available soon for the MacBook Air replacement at an expected upgrade price of $249.

TechRestore Announces the World’s Only Matte Finish Screen Upgrade For the new 11- and 13-inch 2010 MacBook Air Systems

Concord, CA – October, 22 2010 – TechRestore, Inc. announced today the only Matte Finish screen replacement service for 11- and 13-inch 2010 MacBook Air Unibody systems.

The new service offers an option for owners of the new 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air systems, that for personal or professional reasons, do not wish to use the high-gloss screen that is factory installed.

Unlike simple anti-glare covers, which can distort images and skew colors, the TechRestore upgrade involves replacing the super glossy, LED backlit LCD with a matte-finish screen that has the exact same specifications as the original; same resolution, same color depth, same LED backlight. We install a custom black bezel around the edge of the screen that matches the look of the unibody MacBook Pro systems and looks, well, pretty awesome.

“TechRestore was awarded a MacWorld Expo Best of Show Award for our 13″ and 15″ MacBook Pro Unibody Matte Screen replacement service”, said Shannon Jean, Founder and President of TechRestore. “The service is wildly popular and remains the only way for Mac users to get a 13″ MacBook Pro with an anti-glare, matte finish screen. We quickly received requests to add the incredible new 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air systems to our matte lineup and we are happy to oblige our customers.”

Previewed at MacWorld Expo 2009, the TechRestore Overnight MacBook Pro 15-inch Unibody Matte Finish Screen Replacement Service won a Best of Show award and received high praise by numerous publications, including MacWorld magazine that stated “This is, quite honestly, the machine I feel Apple should have launched as the new Unibody MacBook Pro. The engineering of the new bezel (in a nice matte black finish) is perfect; it looks just as good as the one on the stock MacBook Pro machine sitting next to it in TechRestore’s booth.”

The service will be available soon, with over 4000 convenient local drop-off locations throughout the country as well as local drop-off for SF Bay Area customers. The Overnight MacBook Air Matte Finish Screen Replacement Service has a 24-hour turnaround time and flat-rate pricing of $249 that includes installation of a new replacement LCD screen, free return shipping and a 1-year warranty on parts and labor.

After all these years SHARP is closing the door on its personal computer business stating that making a profit from them will be too difficult. Instead, the focus of the company will be on its Galapagos tablet devices along with books, music and videos for them. Sharp says that it will still allow customers to receive support service from their purchased products. Sharp was known for the world’s smallest and lightest PC notebook that had an internal hard drive and a floppy disk drive in the 1990′s.

Sharp Corp. (TSE:6753) plans to pull out of the personal computer business, concluding that turning a profit from stand-alone products will be difficult.

The company will instead focus on marketing its Galapagos tablet devices coming out in December, along with providing content such as e-books, music and video for these products.

Sharp made its mark in the PC business by tapping proprietary technologies for LCDs and chips, as well as in other areas. In the 1990s, it developed what was then the world’s smallest and lightest notebook PC equipped with both an internal hard drive and a floppy disk drive.

Last year, Sharp rolled out a notebook PC with a feature enabling users to draw images by hand. But it has not released any new products since then. The firm discontinued PC production by the end of last year.

Because it outsourced production overseas, Sharp is not expected to incur any facility-related charges from the withdrawal. Customers will continue to receive support services for their purchased products, according to the company.

With the economy poor and your wallet empty, the holidays might be a bit hard on you this year. But you’re in luck…there are ways to get the products you want at a cost you can afford. With sites like bidsauce.com and quibid.com, you can get a great deal on the products you desire with their penny auctions. These types of sites are growing in popularity. Cameras that cost $200 for less than $100, a Canon EOC Rebel Digital Camera at $22.19, a PS3 for $17.32 and an Apple iPad for $124.32 (done by weekly consumer). From electronics to giftcards, anything you can think of you can likely find at these auctions. Check out the video above and read more about it below.

You probably haven’t heard of “Penny Auctions” yet, but get ready to hear about it from here on in, because the popularity is about to skyrocket. Penny Auctions are about to take North America by storm, and eBay is watching this phenomenon very carefully. Penny Auctions allow bargain hunters and deal makers to do exactly that, bid for and win every from Louis Vuitton handbags to electronic items for as much as 5 cents on the dollar. The most popular Penny Auction house to date is BidSauce.com. HP ProBook 4720, Apple MacBook, Apple iPad, Apple iPhone 4, Walmart gift cards, Cannon EOS Revel, Sony PlayStation 3 and even popular DVDs are constantly acutionned off at 75% to 95% off retail price.

It may all sound a bit too good to be true, but there are hundreds of loyal BidSauce.com users who are more than happy with their experience and their winnings. What sets BidSauce apart from traditional auction sites like eBay (aside from the incredible discounts) is that members actually pay to participate in the auctions. Every member plays $0.50 for the privilege of bidding for a product. By charging for the privilege of bidding, BidSauce can make a profit and continously pay out for popular products such as the iPhone 4 for $15.32 or a Playstation 3 for $9.56.

Why are Penny Auctions So Popular?

We are in the midst of the worst recession since the great depression and jobless rates in many states are the highest it has ever been. Add to this rising gas prices and inflation and you can see why people are looking for deals and bargains more than ever.

“BidSauce is a great way to win products that many individuals nor families could afford. If it comes down to paying the rent or gettig that new Playstation 3, the rent will win out. But with BidSauce, you can get great products like the iPad or an unlocked Blackberry for yourself or for a loved one. Most of our new members are referrals from friends and work colleagues, we really don’t need to spend much money on marketing, our users do that for us!” says BidSauce.

Chris Lee from Columbia, South Carolina frequents a number of different Penny Auction sites, but says he has experienced the most success with BidSauce.

“I used to be a big eBay guy but now I just go to BidSauce, it’s really fun, very exciting and I get the best deals. I won a lot of good stuff like:”

Register and Purchase bids by buying a bid pack.

Choose which auction you want to participate in.

Bid on the product you want to win and save!

“I’ve probably won like 60 items over the past 6 months. I’ve kept a few items, but usually sell most of the stuff off. I sold the Samsung phone for $150 and the Sony Camera for $100 on Craigslist. I haven’t kept count but I’ve probably made over $10,000 on selling the stuff I made from the things I won. Maybe I should make a business out of this, I don’t know, but what I do know is that the excitement I get from winning auctions is second to none!”

This is how the Penny Auction model works. A user pays $0.50 for each time he or she wishes to submit a bid. Everytime time a user bids, the countdown on the main clock is refreshed by about 10 seconds. The original time on the clock depends on the value of the item. The higher the value of the item, the bigger the countdown. If users continue to bid, the time keeps refreshing, as the price of the item goes up by each bid, less and less people will bid on that item. If you end up being the last person to bid when the clock runs out, you win! It’s actually a very simple but revolutionary model. It gives every user an equal chance of winning, but also allows for clever users to develop strategies which helps them win great deals such as a Samsung Mobile phone for $10.25, Cannon EOC Rebel Digital Camera for $22.19 and an Apple iPAD for $45.32

The “Buy It Now” option is really interesting and useful. If users participate in an auction that they do not win, they may choose to use the “Buy It Now” option so that all of the bids that they spent can go towards buying the item at a slightly discounted retail price. It’s a win-win scenerio for both the shoppers and the auction house. For example, let’s say a user bids 10 times on a $50 Walmart gift card, but doesn’t win the auction. That user just spent $5 on bids but didn’t win anything. By exercising the “Buy It Now” option, the bidder would put that $5 spent on the $50 value price, paying $45. That way, even although the bidder may not win that particular bid, all bids placed on theBidSauce‘ auction count as credit towards buying the product. It may sound a little confusing, but it really is an easy system to use and the deals are INCREDIBLE!

Should eBay be worried?

eBay is a multi-billion dollar internet auction house who until recently has been on a massive growth curve. As far as internet auctions were concerned, it was basically the only game in town. eBay capitalized on a new business model fuelled by the desire to find great deals and the internet as a medium. It was, in it’s day, the KILLER APP. But eBay is worried about Penny Auctions and BidSaucein particular. It’s easy to see why eBay is taking a close look at this. Where as eBay is now becoming more and more expensive and cumbersome (with increasing cases of fraud!), BidSauce is setting a new direction with ease of use and more importantly and KILLER PRICES. The difference in prices are almost jaw dropping. If there was ever a paradise for bargain hunters, this comes pretty damn close. We recently did a comparison on 3 popular items and this is what we recorded.

So much buzz, let’s put it to the test

We will say this much, it is inherently tempting. We had to try it out at least once. If not for the potential deals, then at least for the sake of this article, after all that’s what do for a living. We spent $100 and slapped down some bids on 20 bids, everything from low ticket items like DVDs to higher end items like Digital Cameras. We didn’t use any special tricks since we were newbies but out of 20 bids we lost 18 and won 2. We ended up snagging a Sony Playstation 3 for $17.32 and an Apple iPad for $124.32. Not bad for a $100 investment, and I have to say, it was DAMN FUN!

From Google, Facebook, eBay to BidSauce.com

When eBay first entered the scene we all treaded cautiously, after all, wasn’t the internet inherently evil? Didn’t thieves take credit card numbers and leave us high and dry? What actually ended up happening is that eBay became the world’s largest e-commerce site (along with Amazon.com who by the way started their own auction area) in a very short amount of time. The people who first took the plunge ended up getting the best deals because quite obviously there was very little competition at the time. Technology will always move forward, and the way we consumers behave will follow that technological growth. We can choose not to change with the times, that is our right of course, but by doing so, but we run the risk of getting left behind. I’ll tell you one thing, getting that brand spanking new iPad in the mail was one thrilling feeling!
